She really did it up on SNL last Saturday. I seem to vaguely remember her busting out a few mildly inappropriate one-liners as a Golden Girl and Julie claims she was the deliverer of sexual innuendos on the Mary Tyler Moore show but SNL brought out a whole new beast. If you haven't seen it, don't miss these beauties:

I thought the material was far beneath a woman of her stature, but she did not write it and she pulled off it with aplomb. It's just a shame the SNL writers had to play "watch the old lady say a dirty word" for 90 minutes.
I agree -- they went to that well a few too many times. The monologue had a more deft touch and was funnier for it. Even 'demented lady talking to census taker' had some zip. Ghaarrr-der-el or whatever the name was brought me back to Steve Martin's The Man With Two Brains.
on another note, have never gotten too excited about MacGruber the skit but I'm definitely in for at least a rental on the movie if we're gonna get a real dose of Kristen Wiig.
I forgot about the census skit. That one was pretty funny and different. I liked the straight talk convicts too. I probably would have liked any of them in a vacuum. It just got tired. I thought the "really" segment was strong as well. Wiig is very underappreciated. I love watching her even in bad skits, because she never just goes through the motions. Tries to squeeze any laugh she can every time.

no ... definitely not the oldest reader but seeing as you[re older than me and Don, the oldest commenter. and also the most into the golden girls (even though you tried to play it off as the mary tyler moor show) esp now that Harsha lives in England where they have no internet
I will say that - next to Elizabeth Montgomery of Bewitched -- Mary Tyler Moore is the most underrated hotty of her day.
