Pennant race...

I have shamelessly adopted the Phillies as my pennant race team. They're in NYC tonight for a crucial 3-game series against the Mets. It's 1-0 Phills, top of the fourth. Brett Myers, on the hill tonight, has been the Phils MVP down the stretch. If that's not enough excitement: espn.com mlb gamecast is now sponsored by Grape Nuts, thereby combining my loves of real-time game updates and high fiber cereal.

Football season begins in earnest this weekend. I have no idea what to make of Da Bears but my gut tells me: mostly staunch defense, electric Devin Hester, Orton/Forte better than predicted, shaky division -- 9-7 with a shot at the wildcard.

I see no problem with your rooting for your current hometeam. You have no history of rooting against the Phils, and they're in the NL. There is no shame there.

I think the the Bears are a crapshoot. They seem to contend for the Super Bowl one year and then the Toilet Bowl the next. Their division is a big question mark, though, so I think anything can happen.

The Boys have no excuse not to go to the Super Bowl this season. But then, they didn't have an excuse last year either. I will tell you now -- watch out for Felix Jones.

yeah, I think the whole QB situation last year became a distraction plus no one played reliably at the position. I think Orton can be serviceable.

'Boys have the inside shot but the East is looking tough. Gotta love the SEC backs -- can 2 rookies from one team get 1,000 yards?
